Malaysian PM Hopes Western Nations Will Follow Cambodian Example of Respect for Others

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, praised the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who leads a country that is primarily Buddhist, yet shows respect and value to minority religions.

Prime Minister Anwar said that while the world was threatening fascist politics regarding race and religion (especially the West), Cambodia was doing the opposite.

Speaking at the Ramadan ceremony on the evening of 27 March 2023 at the OCIC Center, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar hoped that countries pursuing racist policies, especially western countries that claim to be democracies and promote human rights, will take Prime Minister Hun Sen’s leadership as an example that brings peace and religious harmony to Cambodia.

PM Anwar made the remarks during his first visit to Cambodia since becoming Malaysia's prime minister. His visit is a step forward in relations between Cambodia and Malaysia, as the bilateral meeting of the two leaders this morning showed progress in their partnership.
